On July 28, 2025, SES AI Corporation announced a definitive agreement to acquire UZ Energy, a provider of commercial and industrial energy storage systems (ESS), for approximately $25.5 million, subject to an earnout based on agreed financial milestones. The transaction, expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, remains contingent on customary closing conditions.
UZ Energy, founded in 2013, has delivered more than 500 MWh of ESS installations across over 60 countries without any safety incidents. The company’s solutions support a range of applications, including AI data centers, which are projected to drive significant demand in the global ESS market—currently valued at over $300 billion.
SES AI plans to integrate UZ Energy’s hardware platforms, field performance data and established sales channels into its Molecular Universe battery development ecosystem. By combining its AI-enhanced Li-Metal and Li-ion battery technologies with UZ Energy’s real-world operational insights, SES AI aims to accelerate the deployment of safe, high-performance energy storage for data centers and other high-load applications.
“AI data centers in the US are on track to triple their share of national electricity usage by 2028. This acquisition of UZ Energy launches us into this exciting market, accelerates our revenue growth, and strengthens our Molecular Universe ability to deliver better ESS battery materials and health monitoring systems by providing real world data to train our models,” said Qichao Hu, Founder and CEO of SES AI. “In acquiring UZ Energy, SES AI now has a unique opportunity to add an important end market.”
SES AI also filed a Form 8-K with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission detailing the terms of the acquisition.
UZ Energy specializes in premium ESS solutions designed to store sustainable energy safely and effectively. SES AI, established in 2012 and headquartered in Boston, is a pioneer in applying artificial intelligence throughout the battery value chain—from materials discovery and cell design to manufacturing and battery health monitoring.
