Tesla’s China division has launched a Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) version of its Model Y SUV, marking the fourth variant in its local lineup. Priced from 288,500 yuan (approximately $40,400), the new model offers a China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) range of 821 kilometers (510 miles), making it the longest-range Model Y available in the market.

  • Standard RWD from 263,500 yuan (about $36,900)
  • Long Range RWD from 288,500 yuan ($40,400)
  • Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) from 313,500 yuan ($43,900)
  • Model Y L (six-seat layout) from 339,000 yuan ($47,500)

The new Long Range RWD measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm. A notable exterior feature is Tesla’s patented diffuse reflection technology on the rear, which is expected to become a distinctive design hallmark for the model.

Inside, the vehicle retains the family-style minimalist cabin. It includes a 15.4-inch front touchscreen and an 8-inch rear touchscreen, both equipped with Bluetooth connectivity. Rear passengers can access entertainment options—such as music, movies and games—and control seat heating from the back display.

Powering the new variant is a 78.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack supplied by LG. The single rear motor delivers a peak output of 225 kW (302 hp), enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 201 km/h.

Although this Long Range RWD model carries a 25,000 yuan (around $3,500) premium over the entry-level version, most specifications remain unchanged, including the nine-speaker audio system. Some consumers have voiced criticism online about the unchanged sound setup, directing feedback to Tesla China’s Vice President Grace Tao via social media.
