Chinese robotics manufacturer Unitree has introduced the GD01, which it describes as the world’s first mass-produced manned mecha, at a starting price of 3.9 million yuan (approximately $574,000). Defined as a transformable civilian vehicle, the GD01 weighs roughly 500 kilograms when carrying a passenger, according to the company’s announcement.
Unitree released a one-minute demonstration video on social media platforms showcasing the GD01 in action. In the footage, founder Wang Xingxing operates the mecha as it strides forward, topples a stack of bricks, leans backward, and transforms into a quadruped stance. Beyond these basic performance highlights, Unitree has not yet disclosed detailed technical specifications or operational parameters.
The GD01 launch follows several recent consumer-oriented initiatives by Unitree. Last Thursday, the company opened UniStore, touted as the world’s first app store for humanoid robots. At the end of April, it unveiled a dual-arm humanoid robot priced from 26,900 yuan and inaugurated its first direct retail outlet in Beijing’s Wangfujing commercial district.
These product rollouts coincide with Unitree’s preparations for an initial public offering on Shanghai’s STAR Market. The company aims to raise up to 4.2 billion yuan to support embodied artificial intelligence research and expand its manufacturing facilities. Unitree reported robust financial performance for 2025, with annual revenue of 1.708 billion yuan—a 335.4 percent increase year-on-year—and a net profit excluding non-recurring items of 600 million yuan, marking nearly a sevenfold rise.
Unitree also achieved the highest global shipment volume in the humanoid robot category last year, outperforming several established competitors in the sector. The GD01 further broadens the company’s product portfolio, reinforcing its strategic positioning across multiple segments of the robotics market—from humanoid platforms to passenger-carrying mechas.
