Vianode, a producer of advanced battery materials, and C4V, a battery technology firm, have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to explore a long-term supply agreement for high-performance synthetic anode graphite destined for grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). Under the proposed arrangement, Vianode would deliver synthetic graphite to C4V and its Gigafactory joint ventures through 2032, with initial shipments scheduled for the second half of 2026.

Demand for battery energy storage in North America is projected to double by 2030, fueled by increased solar deployment, resilience upgrades for homes and businesses, and the need for flexible grid support. These applications require durable, high-consistency cells and reliable sources of advanced anode materials. Currently, over 95% of the synthetic graphite used in lithium-ion batteries for both EV and stationary storage markets is produced in Asia, creating significant import dependencies for North American customers. The Vianode–C4V partnership aims to bolster regional supply-chain resiliency by offering a foreign-entity-of-concern-free anode solution.

“Building resilient supply chains for critical battery materials is fundamental to both the EV and BESS markets in North America and Europe. While EVs remain at the center of our growth strategy, BESS solutions complement and diversify our commercial portfolio, support capacity utilization at Via ONE during our global scale-up and help drive the wider transition to clean energy,” said Dr. Stefan Bergold, Chief Commercial Officer at Vianode.

Vianode’s synthetic graphite production offers up to a 90% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with conventional processes, with performance tailored for applications ranging from long-duration energy storage to fast-charging electric vehicles. Baasit Ali, Vice President of Supply Chain at C4V, added, “This collaboration is not just about materials—it’s about redefining energy storage for a world moving toward decarbonization. Together, we are building the foundation for batteries that deliver safety, longevity, and efficiency while eliminating dependencies on high-risk foreign entities.”

Glen Kozeli, Director of Sales & Business Development Americas at Vianode, added, “By combining our sustainable synthetic graphite with C4V’s innovative battery technology, we are creating a powerful partnership that will not only drive the energy storage market forward in North America but also lay the foundation for exploring global opportunities together.”

Production under the LOI will commence at Via ONE, Vianode’s sustainable graphite plant in Norway, followed by output from Via TWO, a large-scale facility planned for St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
