Vianode, a Norway-based producer of advanced battery materials, has been honored with Capgemini’s Nordic Sustainability Tech Award 2025. The award recognizes companies that leverage technology to reduce environmental impact and drive the shift toward clean energy. An independent jury assessed nominees based on scalability and applicability, technological leadership, greenhouse gas reduction, environmental footprint, and profitability.

Vianode’s proprietary production process lowers CO₂ emissions in synthetic graphite manufacturing by approximately 90 percent compared to conventional methods. In addition, the company’s technology enables the recycling of graphite from spent batteries, reinforcing a circular approach to battery materials. These innovations aim to support cleaner mobility solutions and bolster resilience in regional battery supply chains across North America and Europe.

“We are proud to receive the Capgemini Sustainability Tech Award. This recognition validates our commitment to building a cleaner and more sustainable future,” said Burkhard Straube, CEO of Vianode. “Together with our partners, we are driving responsible innovation that enables greener mobility and energy for generations to come.”

Graphite used in battery anodes can account for up to 100 kilograms per battery cell and contributes roughly 20 percent of a cell’s total emissions. Vianode’s scalable approach not only reduces these emissions substantially but also facilitates local sourcing of critical battery components, lessening dependence on long-distance transport and improving supply chain robustness.

“Vianode is setting a new global standard for environmentally friendly battery production and recycling,” said Karl Thomas Reinertsen, CEO of Capgemini Norway. “Their scalable Nordic solutions dramatically cut emissions and contribute to a faster green shift.”

The Capgemini Nordic Sustainability Tech Award is presented annually to a Nordic company demonstrating significant engagement and breakthrough solutions in sustainable technology. This year’s finalists included Agilyx and Norwegian Mycelium, reflecting a competitive field of innovators in the region.
