ZincFive has closed an oversubscribed Series F funding round of $30 million to expand production of its nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery solutions for data center power infrastructure. Since its founding in 2016, the company has now raised a total of $254 million from investors including Helios Climate Ventures, Climate Investment, Japan Energy Fund, General Ventures and Clear Creek Investments.

With nearly 2 GW of NiZn battery backup cabinets deployed or contracted globally, ZincFive plans to scale both its commercial footprint and manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand from hyperscalers and data center operators. The company’s chemistry delivers high power density, inherent safety and sustainable performance compared with traditional lead-acid or lithium-ion alternatives. Its cells maintain conductivity even when partially discharged, require minimal maintenance and offer a compact, recyclable design.

Tod Higinbotham, CEO of ZincFive, noted that the new financing underscores the company’s commercial maturity and supports its commitments to deliver reliable power solutions at scale. “We’ve moved beyond proving our technology—now we’re scaling to meet contracted demand,” he said, adding that the investment will accelerate both manufacturing expansion and continuous improvements across core chemistry and system architecture.

Earlier this year, ZincFive introduced its BC 2 AI UPS battery cabinet tailored for AI data centers. The system supports dynamic AI power loads, eliminates thermal-runaway risk and features 96 percent recyclability. This innovation, combined with increased production capacity, aims to address power-system bottlenecks in large-scale AI infrastructure deployments.

Hannah-Mei Andrews, Investment Director at Climate Investment, commented that the AI infrastructure build-out represents one of the largest technology investment cycles in history and that ZincFive is uniquely positioned to capture market share by delivering safe, sustainable, high-performance batteries for demanding AI workloads.

ZincFive’s technology has earned recent recognition on TIME’s 2025 World’s and America’s Top GreenTech Companies lists, the 2024 Edison Award™ and CleanTech Breakthrough’s 2024 Overall Innovation of the Year. Headquartered in Tualatin, Oregon, the privately held company continues to advance its patented NiZn battery solutions for mission-critical applications.
