BYD has expanded its presence into the Croatian passenger vehicle market, furthering its European growth strategy. The company introduced four electric models in Croatia: the Seal, Song Plus EV, Song Plus DM-i, and Sealion 07 EV, as announced in a recent Weibo post.
The Weibo announcement included several images but lacked additional details. Meanwhile, BYD Europe’s LinkedIn account confirmed the company’s entry into the Croatian market during an event held on April 23 in Zagreb, the capital city of Croatia.
In alignment with its European branding strategy, BYD has rebranded some of its models for the Croatian market. The Sealion 07 EV is marketed as the Sealion 7, the Song Plus DM-i is known as the Seal U DM-i, and the Song Plus EV is branded as the Seal U EV. This rebranding ensures consistency across BYD’s offerings in other European regions.
To support its operations in Croatia, BYD plans to establish two dealership locations and a repair facility in Zagreb, according to information provided by the Chinese Embassy in Croatia. These facilities are expected to enhance the accessibility and maintenance of BYD vehicles for Croatian consumers.
Over the past month, BYD has been actively expanding into additional European markets. On March 21, the company launched several models in Serbia, including the Sealion 07 EV, which also underwent rebranding. On April 1, BYD entered the Swiss market with models such as the Seal, Sealion 07 EV, and Song Plus DM-i. Additionally, on April 16, the company expanded into the Czech and Slovak car markets with similar model introductions.
In terms of sales performance, BYD reported selling a total of 377,420 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in March, representing a 24.78% year-over-year increase and a 16.90% rise compared to February. Notably, overseas sales reached a record of 72,723 vehicles in March, marking an 89.22% year-over-year growth and an 8.50% increase from the previous month.
