Company Overview

Adionics is a French company founded in 2012, specializing in sustainable and efficient technologies for lithium extraction and battery enhancement. It focuses on Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) and advanced battery solutions to meet the global demand for lithium used in electric vehicles and renewable energy. The company is dedicated to reducing environmental impact through innovative solutions supporting a cleaner energy future. Headquartered in Les Ulis, France, with a presence in Salta, Argentina.

Battery Technology

Adionics’ core technology is Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) using a patented liquid-liquid extraction process with its proprietary Flionex® system. This system selectively extracts lithium salts from brines, geothermal water, production water, and battery recycling byproducts without the use of traditional reagents, acids, or toxic chemicals. The technology achieves up to 98% lithium recovery and produces lithium chloride with 99% purity, suitable for battery production. Additionally, they develop Smart 3D Electrodes enhancing battery performance, compatible with various chemistries.

Products

Adionics offers its proprietary Flionex® system for lithium extraction from various sources including brines and battery recycling processes. The technology includes a closed-loop system minimizing water use and waste. They are also developing Smart 3D Electrodes for batteries that improve heat dissipation, charging speed, power output, and stability, compatible with multiple battery chemistries like NMC, LFP, silicon, and solid-state batteries.

Recent Projects

Notable projects include a 1,500-hour trial of the Flionex® DLE technology at SQM’s Atacama salar site in Chile, achieving 98% recovery and 99% purity lithium chloride. Adionics opened a demonstration plant in Güemes, Argentina for testing DLE on various brines and introduced a version of Flionex® for battery recycling lithium extraction without toxic waste. The company operates pilot and pre-industrial plants in Europe and Latin America and has collaborative projects with K-UTEC and LITICA RESOURCES.

Investors

Adionics has raised approximately $35.5M (€32M) in total funding, including a $27M Series B round in 2023. Key investors include Bpifrance, Supernova Invest, Celeste Management, Ovive, and Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM). These funds support scaling operations, commercial activities, and research and development in lithium extraction and battery recycling technologies.
