Business Angels Switzerland (BAS) is a non-profit association of private investors founded in 1997. Operating two chapters in Zurich and Lausanne, and headquartered in Worb, it brings together around 80 members who provide early-stage Swiss startups with capital, mentoring, and access to professional networks. Members take minority stakes in companies, offer guidance as unpaid consultants, and help entrepreneurs refine strategies and scale operations.
BAS members invest personal funds in startups across all sectors, focusing on Swiss-based ventures led by strong founding teams, innovative technologies, and plans for market expansion or exit. Typical contributions range from CHF 50,000 to CHF 500,000 per investor, with group rounds often totaling CHF 100,000 to 250,000. The association hosts roughly 20 dinner pitch events annually, where about 60 startups present opportunities. After these meetings, interested angels form due diligence teams to review business plans, enabling straightforward and timely investment decisions—one round was completed in just one week.
Although BAS does not limit itself to specific industries, it has supported companies working on clean energy, emissions reduction, and battery storage solutions that align with its criteria. Members leverage their networks and sector knowledge to guide startups through technology development, regulatory matters, and industrial partnerships. Entrepreneurs in clean tech and battery fields benefit from both financial support and introductions to industry specialists, helping them advance sustainable technologies within Switzerland’s innovation ecosystem.
