ESI specializes in iron flow battery technology licensed from ESS Tech, Inc. These batteries use iron, saltwater electrolyte, and water, offering 8–14 hours of energy storage, a 25-year lifecycle, non-flammable, non-toxic chemistry, full recyclability, and modular design. ESI handles system assembly and manufacturing in Australia.
Utility-scale, commercial, and industrial iron flow battery energy storage systems delivering 8–14 hours of storage capacity, with a 25-year lifecycle and scalable modular architecture. Systems are a safe, environmentally beneficial alternative to lithium-ion batteries.
In 2024, ESI began constructing Australia’s first large-scale iron flow battery manufacturing facility in Maryborough, Queensland—200MW/1.6GWh annual capacity by 2026 (expandable to 400MW/3.2GWh), operational in late 2025. ESI commissioned the first iron redox flow battery at the National Battery Testing Centre in collaboration with ESS Tech, supported by a AUD 25 million Queensland Government investment. Market studies in Indonesia are underway for Southeast Asia expansion.
Queensland Government invested AUD $25M in 2024; an undisclosed international private investor invested AUD $40M.
