Company Overview

Peak Energy is a pioneering American energy storage company founded in 2023 and headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The company’s mission is to develop cost-effective, large-scale sodium-ion battery solutions to enhance renewable energy integration and support grid reliability through sustainable domestic manufacturing.

Battery Technology

Peak Energy’s core technology is utility-scale sodium-ion battery systems that use abundant sodium as the active material. The batteries offer enhanced safety, wider operating temperature ranges, and lower production costs compared to lithium-ion. Development follows a three-phase strategy: integrating third-party cells, transitioning to in-house cell manufacturing, and developing next-generation proprietary cell designs and system architectures for maximum efficiency and longevity.

Products

Advanced sodium-ion battery storage systems designed for utility-scale applications, including 3.5 MWh systems to be deployed through the Peak Pilot Program by 2025. Features include grid-attached capability, high safety, broad temperature tolerance, and optimized cell and system performance.

Recent Projects

Established a battery cell engineering center in Broomfield, Colorado in late 2024 in partnership with state economic development offices; facility to be fully operational by end-2024. Launched the Peak Pilot Program to deploy full-scale grid-attached sodium-ion battery systems for evaluation by major utilities in 2025. Appointed Geoff Brown as Chief Strategy Officer.

Investors

Peak Energy raised $55M in Series A funding led by Xora Innovation, with participation from Eclipse and TDK Ventures. New investors include Lachy Groom, Tishman Speyer, TechEnergy Ventures, Doral Energy-Tech Ventures, and DETV-Scania Invest.
