Zenthos Energy’s core innovation is its patented aluminum–CO₂ battery technology, which uses the electrochemical reaction between aluminum anodes and carbon dioxide cathodes. It employs abundant, domestically sourced materials, eliminates thermal runaway risk for intrinsic safety, operates in extreme temperatures down to –40°C, captures CO₂ during operation, and offers high cell-level efficiency to minimize energy losses.
The company’s flagship product, PowerCore™, is a pouch-cell aluminum–CO₂ battery system that provides up to 24 hours of discharge capacity, delivering long-duration energy storage suitable for stationary and field power applications.
In 2024, Zenthos Energy conducted validation tests at the Battery Innovation Center, demonstrating complete discharge and partial recharge cycles of its commercially relevant pouch-cell aluminum–CO₂ chemistry. These tests confirmed volumetric capacity assumptions, electrode design, >97% voltage efficiency, and fire-safe characteristics. Zenthos Energy was also awarded NASA’s Minority University Research and Education Project (MUREP) MPLAN award for its contributions to sustainable energy solutions.
