Ionic Mineral Technologies (Ionic MT), based in the United States with a vertically integrated production facility in Provo, Utah, is a first-of-its-kind U.S. producer and supplier of high-performance nano-silicon anode materials. Emerging from stealth in 2022, the company controls one of the world’s largest high-purity halloysite clay reserves—2.4 million measured tons and over 7 million inferred tons—providing a secure, long-term domestic feedstock to support its advanced battery material production, enough to power over 50 million EVs.

Nano-Silicon Anodes: The Flagship Focus

Ionic MT’s flagship product, Ionisil™, is a high-purity nano-silicon anode powder derived from halloysite clay. Silicon is a highly promising anode material for next-generation battery technology, capable of delivering up to 3200 mAh/g, more than 10x the capacity of conventional graphite. When blended at 15% with graphite, Ionisil has shown the potential to double anode capacity, enabling ultra-fast charging, increased energy density, and improved EV range.

High-Purity Boehmite Alumina: A Strategic Co-Product

As part of the same proprietary manufacturing process used to produce Ionisil, Ionic MT also generates high-purity boehmite alumina (>99%) as a co-product. Boehmite alumina is essential for ceramic separator coatings in lithium-ion batteries, improving battery safety, thermal stability, and mechanical performance. This co-product offers a near-term path to revenue while Ionisil scales, serving a fast-growing market segment driven by global demand for safer, higher-performing EV battery components.

Scalable, Sustainable Manufacturing

Ionic MT employs a proprietary, patent-pending continuous metallothermic reduction process that transforms halloysite-derived silica into nano-silicon with industry-leading efficiency and minimal environmental impact. This novel method enables rapid scalability and dramatically reduces production costs and carbon emissions. According to ISO-certified lifecycle assessments from Minviro, Ionic MT’s process has a substantially lower carbon footprint than incumbent graphite-based materials.

Strategic Policy Alignment: Benefits from the Executive Order

The March 2025 White House Executive Order formally prioritizes domestic production of both nano-silicon and boehmite alumina, recognizing their critical importance to U.S. national security and the EV supply chain. This policy places Ionic MT in direct alignment with federal objectives and makes the company eligible for significant non-dilutive support through programs such as the Defense Production Act (DPA), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

This alignment also enhances Ionic’s competitiveness, enabling the company to accelerate commercialization of domestic supply with reduced risk and access to potential grants, loan guarantees, and strategic offtake agreements.

Vertical Integration and Strategic Advantages

Ionic MT is one of the only U.S.-based battery material companies that fully integrates mining, refining, and manufacturing. This vertical integration shortens supply chains, enhances quality control, and positions the company as a cost-competitive domestic alternative to Chinese-dominated markets for silicon anodes and battery-grade alumina.

Its halloysite deposits are fully permitted, giving Ionic MT a strong head start in delivering secure and traceable battery materials to North American gigafactories. The company’s partnership with ANDRITZ supports scalable, low-emissions production using a continuous, closed-loop process with up to 99% chemical recycling.

“Our mission at Ionic MT is to deliver the next generation of battery anode materials while building a secure and sustainable supply chain here in the U.S.,” said the company’s CEO. “We lead with nano-silicon innovation—unlocking energy density, fast charging, and cost efficiency—and uniquely, our process also yields high-purity alumina as a strategic co-product for today’s most demanding EV battery applications.”

World-Class Leadership and Technical Expertise

Ionic MT’s team includes experts from Apple, Samsung SDI, Tesla, Volkswagen, BASF, Argonne National Laboratory, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Led by CEO Andre Zeitoun and CTO Dr. Sunho Kang, the company also recently added Dr. Rajan Patel, Ph.D. as Head of Battery Materials and Dr. Ismail Yildirim as Head of Manufacturing. Together, they bring deep expertise in battery materials, manufacturing, and scale-up operations.

Multi-Sector Applications

Ionisil and boehmite alumina are applicable across multiple high-growth sectors, including electric vehicles, consumer electronics, grid storage, and advanced ceramics. Their high-performance profiles and compatibility with current lithium-ion production lines allow seamless integration into existing manufacturing without major retooling.

Ionic MT’s recent highlights and industry developments are:

  • One of the only vertically integrated U.S. producers of two newly designated critical minerals
  • Alignment with 2025 Executive Order opens the door to federal support programs
  • Pilot facility with 50 tpa of nano-silicon and 4,000 tpa of boehmite alumina capacity
  • MOU signed with a Tier 2 battery manufacturer for 1,000 tpa Ionisil
  • Active joint-development discussions with Tier-1 EV and battery OEMs

A Forward-Looking Approach

Ionic Mineral Technologies is delivering a rare combination of innovation, scale, and policy alignment. With a secure U.S. feedstock, patented low-carbon process, and two fast-growing product lines, the company is well positioned to meet the domestic content needs of the U.S. energy transition.

By providing both high-performance nano-silicon and high-margin boehmite alumina, Ionic MT is accelerating the next era of American battery materials manufacturing—and helping secure the future of clean energy supply chains.
