Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich GmbH & Co KG, known as Eirich, is a fifth-generation family-owned German engineering group with roots tracing back to a mill workshop founded in 1863. Headquartered in Hardheim, Germany, Eirich has evolved into a globally recognized supplier of mixing and process technologies for material processing across a wide array of industries. With a workforce of approximately 1,200 employees globally and operations in 16 locations across 11 countries, the Eirich Group generates around 180 million euros in annual revenue. The company holds more than 400 patents, underscoring a long history of developing advanced machinery and process solutions for applications such as energy storage, metallurgy, ceramics, and environmental technology.

Battery Technology

Eirich provides specialized process engineering solutions focusing on the material preparation and electrode manufacturing stages within the battery value chain, specifically for lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. Eirich offers mixing equipment and systems capable of handling both wet and dry electrode components. This includes producing homogeneous slurries and dry mixes for lithium-ion electrode production, as well as processes like dry mixing, kneading, dispersing, degassing under vacuum, and temperature-controlled mixing using specialized cooled mixing pans. Examples include the 50-liter R05T mixer designed for lithium-ion battery production and ultra-small laboratory mixers for R&D and pilot-scale applications.

Technological innovations include MixSolver® for wet slurry processing and EVACMIX® vacuum dry dispersion for fine particles. Their expertise extends to processes like polymer fibrillation, particle coating, and melt coating. Eirich’s process technologies are scalable, supporting everything from laboratory research, including solid-state coin cell development, to pilot studies and full-scale production for gigafactories. The company has decades of experience in lead-acid battery paste technologies and, since 2009, has specialized in preparing lithium-ion battery electrode mixes. Eirich’s dry electrode technologies offer potential cost reductions compared to traditional wet methods, supporting more efficient and sustainable battery production.

Recent Projects

In 2024, Eirich celebrated a century of its mixing principle, highlighting its heritage and continued advancements in mixing technology. The company also invested 5.5 million euros in constructing a modern production building at its Hardheim facility. Eirich has also engaged in large-scale projects, including one involving foundry technology with Atik Metal in Turkey in 2024.
