AM Batteries (AMB), a Massachusetts–based company specializing in dry battery electrode manufacturing, has introduced an online Savings Calculator designed to help battery producers evaluate the financial and performance benefits of its Powder to Electrode™ dry-coating process.
The interactive tool allows users to input parameters such as factory location, annual production capacity, cathode and anode material choices, electrode thickness, process yield and vendor tier.
It then generates comparative estimates for capital expenditure, operating costs and facility footprint under traditional slurry-based methods versus AMB’s solvent-free approach.
“This tool transforms the value of dry electrode from theory into data,” said Lie Shi, CEO of AM Batteries. “Within minutes, manufacturers can see how our Powder to Electrode™ process impacts their cost structure and the performance of the cells they produce.”
For instance, a facility with 30 gigawatt-hours of annual output might realize more than $100 million in annual operating expense reductions by converting to the dry-electrode process, while also benefiting from stronger adhesion, higher areal loading and extended cycle life in the finished cells.
AMB’s proprietary technology eliminates solvents and the need for energy-intensive drying ovens.
The company reports that this approach can lower operating expenses by over 60 percent and capital expenditures by up to 40 percent, in addition to reducing the required production area by roughly one-third.
The process also supports faster wetting of electrodes, improved binder flexibility and the ability to recover and recycle unused electrode powder—advantages that are challenging to achieve with conventional slurry coating.
The Savings Calculator is accessible for both pilot-scale lines and full-scale gigafactory scenarios, enabling manufacturers at any stage of development to build a robust business case for adopting dry-electrode technology.
“We’ve removed the guesswork,” added Shi. “Anyone considering dry electrode can now quantify the opportunity in minutes.”
The calculator is publicly available at www.am-batteries.com/benefits.
