At its 2025 annual general meeting on June 9, BYD’s Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu outlined the company’s vision for global leadership, projecting that BYD will become the world’s largest automaker by scale within the next five years. He cited strong overseas momentum driven by competitive pricing, advanced technology, and positive user experiences as key factors behind this confidence.

Wang noted that BYD’s initial target of 1.6 million overseas sales for the year is likely to be exceeded, thanks in part to a strategy focused on long-term growth and market localization. He emphasized that adapting production, supply chains, and after-sales support to local markets will be essential to securing stable, sustainable growth and mutually beneficial partnerships.

On the technology front, Wang described connected vehicles as “embodied intelligence,” highlighting that 3.15 million BYD models equipped with intelligent driving systems are already in use worldwide. With data collection ongoing at a rate of 200 million kilometers per day, the company is building a foundational dataset to advance its Level 3 and Level 4 autonomous driving ambitions. BYD says it is prepared across chip development, algorithm refinement, and data infrastructure, and is awaiting regulatory frameworks to enable broader deployment. To support this rollout, the company has opened training centers in Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

Addressing shareholder concerns about brand positioning and profit margins, Wang underscored the role of core technologies in elevating BYD’s premium image. He pointed out that in markets such as Australia, Europe, and South America, BYD is already recognized as a high-end brand. With new technologies slated for release next year, the company expects to enhance both its brand appeal and per-vehicle profitability.

Looking ahead, Wang expressed optimism for the next three to five years. He identified the second-generation blade battery, rapid-charging innovations, and upcoming proprietary technologies as drivers of a “dual-engine” growth strategy that leverages both domestic and international markets. By 2030, BYD aims to claim the top spot in the global automotive industry.
