Chinese automaker BYD has officially unveiled the Song Ultra EV, a mid-size electric SUV featuring its second-generation Blade Battery and enhanced flash charging technology as standard equipment. The model’s starting price is set at 151,900 yuan (approximately $21,980), slightly below the 155,000 yuan presale figure announced earlier this month.

Measuring 4,850 millimeters in length with a 2,840 mm wheelbase, the Song Ultra EV offers two driving-range options—605 km and 710 km—thanks to the upgraded Blade Battery across all trim levels. Powering the rear wheels is a single electric motor generating a peak output of 270 kW, enabling a top speed of 210 km/h.

A key selling point is the vehicle’s ultra-fast flash charging capability. Under normal temperature conditions, the battery can recharge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes and reach 97% in nine minutes. Even in extreme cold—down to minus 30 degrees Celsius—charging times increase by only about three minutes.

The Song Ultra EV comes equipped with BYD’s DiSus-C intelligent damping body control system, which continuously adjusts suspension settings for improved handling and ride comfort. It also features a flat-tire stabilization system designed to help maintain vehicle control at speeds up to 140 km/h. To enhance driver assistance, the SUV is fitted with 27 sensors supporting urban navigation assistance and all-scenario intelligent parking functions.

With competition intensifying in China’s electric-vehicle market, BYD aims to strengthen its position through rapid-charging technology and competitive pricing. The Song Ultra EV is expected to compete directly with offerings such as the Leapmotor C11 and Xpeng G6 in the mid-size electric SUV segment. This launch completes the pure-electric lineup within BYD’s Dynasty series, catering to consumers who prioritize family travel and overall cost efficiency.

Since pre-sales opened on March 6, the company reports that more than 21,586 orders have been placed for the Song Ultra EV.
