Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) introduced TECTRANS II, its next-generation commercial vehicle battery solution, at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany, on Sept. 14, 2026. The company said the platform is designed to support the electrification of commercial vehicles across a wide range of operating scenarios and to improve performance, economics, and durability for fleet applications.
According to CATL, TECTRANS II uses a modular architecture that can be configured with different numbers of standardized battery packs to match varying energy and payload requirements. The platform supports both e-axle and central-drive vehicle architectures and allows flexibility between charging and battery swapping. CATL said the design can reduce vehicle development cycles for OEMs by 50% and lower R&D costs by 60% to 70% by minimizing the need for dedicated battery systems for each model.
The company also highlighted lifecycle performance and efficiency benefits. The battery platform has a gravimetric energy density of 170 Wh/kg, which CATL said is about 13% above the industry average. In its maximum configuration, the system is designed to provide up to 1,000 kilometers of range and support 80% charging in 25 minutes with megawatt-level fast charging. CATL said its full-tab low-impedance design enables 96% system round-trip efficiency. For heavy-duty trucks, the battery is engineered for a 12-year, 1.5-million-kilometer service life with 70% capacity retention.
CATL also emphasized safety and reliability measures, including reinforced enclosure structures, impact resistance, corrosion protection, maintenance-friendly high-voltage safety features, BMS redundancy, insulation fault diagnosis, and cybersecurity protections. The company said the platform has undergone validation testing, including full-vehicle torsion and external fire testing.
At the event, CATL signed a memorandum of understanding with DHL Group to develop Green Freight Corridors across Europe. The effort expands on a September 2024 agreement and will combine DHL’s logistics network and operating experience with CATL’s battery technology. The companies said they will work with OEMs and other partners to develop purpose-built electric vehicles and launch pilot deployments.
