Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) announced on October 28, 2026, that it had unveiled its 9 MWh Tener+ energy storage system at All Energy Australia 2026 in Melbourne. Designed for grid-scale, long-duration storage projects, the system increases capacity per container to reduce equipment requirements, land use and deployment complexity. CATL said Tener+ can require up to 40% fewer containers and reduce project footprints by 12% compared with conventional solutions.

Tener+ has a stated design life of 25 years and uses proprietary cell technology intended to slow degradation. Customers can select configurations for different climates and project revenue models, including cells optimized for high temperatures or configurations offering three years of zero degradation. The zero-degradation feature is not available with every configuration.

The system uses a top-exhaust design to direct hot air away from neighboring equipment, which CATL said helps power conversion systems maintain rated output during harsh summer conditions. Intelligent thermal management is intended to improve round-trip efficiency and reduce auxiliary power consumption. Multiple systems can also be commissioned simultaneously.

CATL also presented its Tener Sodium sodium-ion battery energy storage system in Australia for the first time. The modular system can provide more than 30 MWh of system-level storage capacity and operate at ambient temperatures up to 55°C. The company claims a cycle life exceeding 10,000 cycles at 45°C.

In Australia, CATL signed memorandums of understanding with Hitachi Energy, EPEC Group and UNSW Sydney. The agreements cover integrated battery and power conversion solutions, grid connection, engineering, system validation, and a planned renewable energy training and innovation center in Western Sydney.

CATL said it has deployed more than 3,000 energy storage projects globally, while its cumulative installed capacity in Australia exceeds 17 GWh. According to SNE Research, its lithium-ion energy storage battery shipments reached 125.0 GWh in the first half of 2026, representing a 27.1% global market share.
