Changan Automobile has confirmed it will begin trial installations of its Golden Bell solid-state battery packs in vehicles before the third quarter of 2026. Announced on February 24 via the company’s update on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange interactive platform, the Golden Bell pack is reported to deliver an energy density of 400 Wh/kg and enable a driving range exceeding 1,500 km on a single charge.

Company representatives said the solid-state battery project is advancing smoothly, with initial installations planned for robots and electric vehicles by Q3 2026. Mass production of the Golden Bell cells and their integration into vehicle lines is scheduled to commence next year. Changan also highlighted a safety improvement of roughly 70 percent compared with conventional battery packs, attributing this boost to remote diagnostics powered by artificial intelligence.

Golden Bell operates as an independent battery brand under Changan and was introduced in November 2023 with eight cell variants spanning liquid, semi-solid and solid-state technologies. The brand’s facilities are being developed to reach a combined production capacity of 150 GWh.

In parallel, Changan continues to collaborate with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) on sodium-ion battery technology. Earlier this year, the two companies held a joint conference in Yakeshi, China, where they unveiled the Naxtra sodium battery pack. This pack delivers an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, remains operable at temperatures as low as –50 °C and offers more than 400 km of electric range. The Changan Nevo Q05 and Nevo A06 models are slated to be the first vehicles equipped with the Naxtra pack.
