China’s March 2026 Power Battery Installs Total 56.5 GWh

In March 2026, China’s power battery installations totaled 56.5 GWh, a 0.1% drop year-on-year but up 114.9% from February. CATL led with 25.71 GWh (45.5%), followed by BYD at 10.06 GWh (17.8%) and CALB at 3.52 GWh (6.2%).

China’s power battery installations reached 56.5 GWh in March 2026, a slight 0.1% year-on-year decrease but a 114.9% increase from February as manufacturers recovered from seasonal headwinds, according to data released by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance. Leading the market, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) installed 25.71 GWh of power batteries domestically, accounting for 45.54% of the total—a decline of 3.56 percentage points from February.

New energy vehicle maker BYD ranked second with 10.06 GWh of installed capacity, lifting its market share to 17.83%, up 4.26 percentage points month-on-month. Chinese Automotive Lithium Battery (CALB) followed in third place, supplying 3.52 GWh and capturing 6.23% of the market, a modest increase from the previous month.

In the ternary (nickel-cobalt-manganese) battery segment, CATL reinforced its dominance by installing 7.60 GWh and securing a 70.83% share—up 4.59 percentage points from February. LG Energy Solution held the second position with 1.92 GWh, representing 17.86% of ternary installations, though its share slipped by 7.01 percentage points. Svolt Energy took third place in this segment with 0.72 GWh and a 6.73% share, marking a 2.74-point increase.

Within the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) sector, CATL again led with 18.11 GWh of capacity and a 39.60% share, down 4.74 percentage points month-on-month. BYD’s LFP installations matched its overall output of 10.06 GWh, driving its segment share up by 4.69 points to 22.01%. Gotion High-tech ranked third in LFP with 3.35 GWh and a 7.33% share.

On the global stage, CATL and BYD together held 55.5% of the electric vehicle battery market in January–February 2026, with CATL at 42.1% and BYD at 13.4%, a combined decrease from 59.0% in January.
