Chinese Automakers' 2025 Sales: BYD Leads, Great Wall Trails
Chinese automakers posted mixed 2025 sales results against targets: BYD delivered 4.6M vehicles (83.7% of its 5.5M goal), Geely edged past 3M, while Great Wall hit 33.1%. Leapmotor, Xpeng and Xiaomi Auto outperformed, Nio and others lagged.

Chinese automakers reported a wide range of results against their 2025 sales targets, according to year-end figures compiled by CarNewsChina. Several brands significantly exceeded expectations, while others fell well short of ambitious goals.

BYD, the country’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer by volume, delivered 4,602,436 vehicles in 2025. This output represented 83.7% of its 5.5 million-unit target, but it maintained its lead in China’s auto market. Geely Automobile recorded sales of 3,024,567 units, narrowly surpassing its raised annual target of 3 million vehicles, for a completion rate of 100.8%. Measured against its original 2.71 million-unit goal set at the start of the year, Geely’s effective completion rate stood at about 111.6%.

Chery Automobile achieved 2,631,381 sales, reaching 80.7% of its 3.26 million-unit objective. Great Wall Motor experienced the largest shortfall, logging 1,323,672 deliveries—just 33.1% of its 4 million-unit target.

Among brands that exceeded targets, Leapmotor delivered 596,555 vehicles, hitting 119.3% of its 500,000-unit goal, and Xpeng Motors posted 429,445 deliveries, a 122.7% completion rate against a 350,000-unit plan.

Newcomer Xiaomi Auto, in its first full production year, sold more than 400,000 vehicles, topping its 350,000-unit target with a completion rate above 114.3%.

On the lower end of performance, HIMA reached 58.9% of its 1 million-unit target with 589,107 units sold, while Li Auto delivered 406,343 cars, achieving 63.5% of its 640,000-unit goal.

Nio closed the year with 326,028 deliveries, marking 74.1% of its 440,000-unit target. The company registered a notable 32.7% month-over-month increase in December, with 48,135 vehicles delivered.

As of press time, major automakers such as SAIC and Changan have not yet released their annual sales figures.
