At Envision Global Tech Day 2026, held during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week on January 20, Envision Energy entered into a Joint Development Agreement with Samruk-Kazyna Invest, the investment division of Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund. The pact, signed in Abu Dhabi and witnessed by Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of Envision’s Asia-Pacific region, and Saken Muratuly, representative of Samruk-Kazyna JSC’s chairman, aims to localize production of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan has rapidly expanded its wind and solar capacity, generating increased demand for grid flexibility and reliable energy storage. Under the agreement, Envision Energy and Samruk-Kazyna Invest will collaborate to establish local assembly and manufacturing facilities for BESS equipment. This approach is expected to strengthen the regional supply chain, reduce dependence on imported components, and enhance delivery efficiency and cost competitiveness.

“Kazakhstan is emerging as a green energy hub in Central Asia, leading the region in renewable installed capacity and project scale. Its wind and solar projects have repeatedly set new regional records, positioning the country as a benchmark for energy transition across Central Asia.” said Saken Muratuly. “Energy storage is a critical infrastructure for large-scale renewable integration. Localizing BESS will enhance Kazakhstan’s renewable energy integration, grid resilience, and ensure grid stability and energy security. This partnership marks an important starting point for deepened collaboration between SKI and Envision, stimulating local industries, creating high-quality jobs, and accelerating industrial upgrading. We look forward to advancing projects across multiple energy scenarios and establishing nationally recognized demonstration initiatives.”

Edward Hou described the partnership as a key milestone in clean energy collaboration, reinforcing mutual trust across the green energy value chain. He outlined Envision’s commitment to leveraging its expertise in large-scale BESS deployment, digital energy management, and system safety to support Kazakhstan’s medium- and long-term emission-reduction targets. By combining technology transfer with localized manufacturing, the partners aim to accelerate the nation’s transition to a sustainable energy structure and promote renewable growth throughout Central Asia.

The agreement sets the stage for future demonstration projects and broader market expansion in the region, reflecting a shared vision for advancing renewable energy deployment and industrial upgrading in Kazakhstan.
