Maxell, Ltd. will begin sample shipments in November of its new ceramic-packaged all-solid-state battery, PSB401010T, which is designed to charge and discharge at temperatures up to 150 °C. This latest cell builds on all-solid-state battery technology introduced earlier in 2024 and incorporates proven features from the company’s existing PSB401010H model, including a wide discharge temperature range, high reliability, and robust safety characteristics.

The PSB401010H cell, currently in mass production, has demonstrated reliable performance in industrial equipment, data loggers, and real-time clocks operating in environments beyond the limits of conventional lithium-ion batteries. In response to feedback from customer evaluations, Maxell accelerated development of the PSB401010T to meet demand for higher maximum discharge temperatures and longer cycle life under continuous high-temperature operation.

Laboratory testing indicates that the new PSB401010T achieves approximately five times the cycle life of its predecessor when subjected to repeated charge and discharge cycles at 150 °C. By maintaining capacity and stability under extreme conditions, this cell is expected to extend the operating time of equipment used in high-temperature applications compared to systems that rely on traditional batteries.

Maxell plans to leverage its analog core technologies to address a range of social and industrial challenges. The company’s ongoing roadmap for all-solid-state batteries and modules emphasizes four key attributes: long lifetime, high-temperature resistance, high output, and high capacity. These developments aim to expand the use of solid-state batteries into areas where existing battery chemistries are impractical.

Key specifications for the PSB401010T (subject to change) include dimensions of 10.5 × 10.5 × 4.0 mm, charging operation from 0 °C to 150 °C, discharging operation from –20 °C to 150 °C, and a nominal capacity of 6.0 mAh.
