Renalfa Power Clusters Buys Solar and BESS in Romania
Renalfa Power Clusters, a JV of RGreen Invest and Renalfa Solarpro Group, acquired Romania's 365 MW Horia 2 solar project and a 400 MW/2 h battery system. Phase 1 will boost capacity to 568 MWp PV and 669 MW/2 GWh BESS with AI controls by 2027.

Renalfa Power Clusters, a joint venture between RGreen Invest and Renalfa Solarpro Group, has acquired two renewable energy projects in Arad County, western Romania, which will be integrated into a solar and battery storage cluster. The acquired assets include the Horia 2 solar project, with 365 MW of peak capacity, and a standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) project offering 400 MW power capacity and two hours of duration (800 MWh).

The joint venture plans to merge and reconfigure these assets into a unified power cluster, expanding both the photovoltaic and storage segments. Under the first development phase, PV capacity will increase to 568 MWp, while the BESS will grow to 669 MW with 2 GWh of storage capacity. A second phase envisions an additional 400 MW of battery capacity, adding 1.61 GWh, as well as potential further solar expansion. These hybrid projects are fully de-risked, in late-stage development, and are expected to commence commercial operations in 2027.

This integrated cluster, dubbed “Sovereign Grid Anchor,” will feature a dual-chemistry storage approach combining lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, along with grid-forming inverter technology. A proprietary, AI-driven dispatch and control platform will manage system operations and grid services—a capability traditionally provided by thermal power plants. By pioneering these technologies, Renalfa Power Clusters aims to deliver flexible, baseload-ready renewable energy.

The initiative builds on the success of Renalfa IPP, which introduced hybrid renewable assets to Europe’s green baseload market. Renalfa Solarpro Group currently supplies over 4.5 TWh of renewable electricity across multiple countries and operates the Eldrive EV charging network and Spark car-sharing platform. RGreen Invest, based in Paris, has financed more than 3,000 projects in Europe through its Infragreen equity funds, managing over €3.4 billion in assets.
