Sungrow has been selected by Verano Energy to supply its PowerTitan 2.0 energy storage system for the Observatorio project in Chile. The agreement covers a 152 MW / 606 MWh battery energy storage system with a four-hour duration, along with a 25-year long-term service agreement intended to support the system’s operational availability, performance, and reliability over its lifecycle.
The Observatorio project will pair a 135 MW solar photovoltaic plant with utility-scale storage. Sungrow’s SG350HX-20 inverters will be used for the solar installation, while the battery system will allow renewable electricity to be stored and dispatched during periods of higher demand. According to the companies, this configuration is designed to support Chile’s power system and improve the integration of renewable energy into the country’s electricity mix.
Verano Energy said the project is an important part of its renewable energy portfolio in Chile because it combines generation and storage to better capture the value of solar output and address power system flexibility needs. The company added that the use of storage is intended to help maximize the benefits of its solar resources while supporting ongoing energy transition efforts in the region.
Sungrow said the agreement strengthens its role in Chile’s energy storage market and reflects its focus on delivering long-term energy infrastructure. The company noted that large-scale storage can help optimize solar generation, reduce curtailment, and provide greater operational flexibility for power systems.
Chile has emerged as one of the more active markets in Latin America for battery energy storage development, driven by growing interest in grid stability and renewable integration. The Observatorio project adds to that momentum by combining solar generation with a grid-scale storage system supported by a long-term service arrangement.
