This week includes supply and scale updates from American Battery Factory and Verkor, new grid storage orders for BYD and Sungrow, and technology announcements spanning semi-solid cells from CALB and sulfur cathode progress from Gelion with TDK. 🔋 SAIC-GM Deploys Wheeled Humanoid Robot on Electra E7 Battery Line

SAIC-GM and Agibot introduced Nengzai No. 1, a wheeled humanoid robot used on the Buick Electra E7 battery line. It uses vision and dual-arm coordination to load cells with ±0.1 mm precision and two-second cycle times. Read more

🔋 Nio Opens First Store in Costa Rica

Nio opened its first Latin American store, a Nio House in San José, Costa Rica, in partnership with Horizontes Cielo Azul. The site shows models including ET5 Touring, EL6, EL8, Onvo L60, and Firefly, with Onvo L90 preorders at EXPOMOVIL. Read more

🔋 Volvo to Exclusively Distribute Lynk & Co EVs Across Europe

🔋 BYD Cuts 100,000 Jobs, Reports Record EV Sales

BYD reduced about 100,000 jobs in 2025 while reporting record revenue of 8,039.6 billion yuan and 4.6 million EV deliveries. Exports exceeded one million units, while net profit fell 19% amid pricing pressure and continued R&D spending. Read more

🔋 Stellantis Considers Leapmotor Assembly at Brampton Plant

Stellantis is in talks with Leapmotor to assemble vehicles at its idle Brampton, Ontario plant using CKD kits. The plan is described as contingent on approval under Canada’s new EV tariffs. Read more

🔋 Freudenberg Exits Heavy-Duty Battery and Fuel Cell Systems

Freudenberg dissolved its e-Power Systems unit by January 1, 2026, ending heavy-duty battery and fuel cell integration activities while keeping hydrogen component manufacturing. The change affects around 600 employees. Read more

🔋 POSCO Future M Targets Methane Graphite and Partnerships

POSCO Future M announced plans to produce natural graphite anode materials using methane, signed an MoU with Kumho Petrochemical and BEI for next-generation battery research, and approved governance and growth strategies at its AGM. Read more

🔋 Global Battery Materials Opens Quebec Lab, Ships Graphite Samples

Global Battery Materials opened its GBM Graphite Lab in Quebec and shipped initial graphite samples from Ontario’s Kearney Mine to U.S. customers for qualification. The company cited progress toward a North American battery-grade graphite supply chain. Read more

🔋 ION Minerals Expands Lithium Acreage in North America

ION Minerals expanded its lithium resource portfolio to more than 280,000 mineral acres across East Texas, the Texas Panhandle, and Southeast Saskatchewan. The company is pursuing brine lithium development for battery and EV supply chains. Read more

🔋 Sungrow Signs 1 GWh BESS Supply Deal with ENEVO in Romania

Sungrow and ENEVO Group signed a deal for 1 GWh of PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled BESS in Romania, planned for delivery in two phases by 2026. The agreement builds on prior solar cooperation. Read more

🔋 BYD Wins 2.6 GWh Storage Order for Chile Solar Project

BYD will supply 2.6 GWh of MC Cube-T systems to Grenergy’s Central Oasis solar-plus-storage project in Chile. The project includes four integrated stations expected to operate across 2026–27. Read more

🔋 Akuo to Build 80 MW/220 MWh BESS at Portugal Solar Plant

Akuo will construct an 80 MW/220 MWh battery energy storage system at its 181 MW Santas solar plant in Borba, Portugal. The project is backed by €15 million in EU funding and is due online in Q2 2027. Read more

🔋 CALB Launches 400 Wh/kg Semi-Solid Batteries for Light Trucks

CALB introduced a 400 Wh/kg semi-solid-state battery with a hybrid electrolyte, stating a 122% energy-density increase versus liquid cells. The company said the cells support 2C fast charging, perform at –25 °C, and are in mass production for Chery light trucks. Read more

🔋 Gelion Expands NES Sulfur Cathode Collaboration With TDK

Gelion reported commercial-ready performance for its NES sulfur cathodes in lithium-metal pouch cells and more than 750 full-cell cycles. The expanded collaboration with TDK aims to validate compatibility with graphitic and silicon anodes. Read more

LG Energy Solution became the first battery maker to join SDVerse, offering five software modules covering performance, diagnostics, safety, and lifespan management for software-defined vehicles. Read more

🔋 Hina Battery Says Sodium-Ion Costs Could Match Lithium by 2027–28

Hina Battery GM Li Shujun said sodium-ion battery costs are expected to align with lithium-ion prices by 2027–28, citing declining sodium-ion costs and rising lithium costs. He also referenced scaling to hundreds of GWh and energy density above 180 Wh/kg. Read more

🔋 tozero Starts Operations at Bavaria Battery Recycling Plant

tozero began operations at its first industrial demo plant in Bavaria, designed to process 1,500 metric tons of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries per year. The company said its acid-free process recovers high-purity lithium carbonate, graphite, and a nickel-cobalt mix. Read more
