Suzuki Motor Corporation announced on March 4, 2026 that it has entered into a business transfer agreement with Kanadevia Corporation to acquire the latter’s all-solid-state lithium-ion battery business, effective July 1, 2026. The acquisition will allow Suzuki to integrate proprietary solid-state battery technologies into its broader electrification initiatives.
Kanadevia, headquartered in Osaka, began developing all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries in 2006. Its proprietary dry manufacturing process produces cells without liquid electrolytes, enhancing safety by eliminating leakage risks and offering superior environmental resistance. These batteries also operate reliably across a wide temperature range, making them suitable for specialized applications such as aerospace, high-temperature industrial settings and vacuum environments.
Through the acquisition, Suzuki will assume responsibility for Kanadevia’s technology development, design and sales operations related to all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries. The company sees this move as a key step in its long-term strategy to accelerate the adoption of electrified vehicles and to enhance its research and development capabilities in cutting-edge battery technologies. This transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals.
Details regarding the financial performance, assets and liabilities of the acquired business have not been disclosed. The acquisition price also remains confidential, and the purchase will be funded through a cash payment. Upon completion, Suzuki will inherit Kanadevia’s intellectual property and technical expertise, positioning the company to advance solid-state battery development in response to growing market demand for safer, higher-energy-density power solutions.
