Helen Ventures is the corporate venture capital arm of Finnish energy company Helen Ltd. Based in Helsinki, it manages a €50 million fund dedicated to European startups that advance sustainable energy and related technologies. Since its launch, the team has backed 17 companies across early and growth stages, providing sector know-how and market insights. Effective June 1, 2025, portfolio management and the entire Helen Ventures team will join Redstone Nordics, ensuring continuity of support and access to Redstone’s investor network.
Helen Ventures concentrates on startups in energy, e-mobility, the circular economy, decarbonization, and digital and climate tech. The fund seeks ventures that improve energy efficiency, develop smart grid solutions, and offer digital platforms for energy procurement and management. By combining deep industry experience with collaborative partnerships, the firm helps entrepreneurs refine their business models and scale their solutions in European markets.
Battery technology is a priority area, as illustrated by investments in Voltfang, which repurposes used electric vehicle batteries into stationary energy storage systems to support renewable integration and grid services, and in EcoG, creator of an open, hardware-agnostic IoT operating system for charging stations. Beyond battery storage, the portfolio includes companies like Virta and &Charge GmbH, strengthening e-mobility infrastructure, and Renewabl, which streamlines corporate renewable energy sourcing through advanced traceability tools. Other portfolio companies include Emulate Energy, which optimizes residential electricity use for grid flexibility, and Gradyent, using AI to improve heating networks and reduce emissions. Nobilegroup, another partner, focuses on integrating distributed renewables through digital energy management platforms.
