Saft specializes in lithium-ion high-capacity systems optimized for energy storage and power management, nickel-based batteries for demanding aerospace and defense applications, and energy storage systems with advanced battery management technology. Manufacturing processes emphasize rigorous quality control and safety testing. Dedicated research facilities work on next-generation technologies, including solid-state batteries and advanced electrode materials.
Current products include primary lithium batteries, rechargeable nickel-based systems, and specialized lithium-ion configurations featuring advanced cell designs for extended service life and reliable performance, as well as compact and large-scale energy storage units.
In 2024, Saft expanded its Jacksonville, Florida facility with a new production line to increase capacity to over 5 GWh by 2027. It introduced the AI-enhanced I-Sight monitoring platform in 2025 and plans to raise energy density of its lithium battery storage systems from 3.3 MWh to over 5 MWh by 2026.
Since 2016, Saft has been a wholly owned subsidiary of TotalEnergies. Previous owners include Compagnie Générale Électrique (Alcatel) from 1928 to 1995 and Doughty Hanson Funds from 2004 to 2007.
