Futavis GmbH, established in 2013 and headquartered in Aachen, Germany, specializes in developing and manufacturing modular battery systems and Battery Management Systems (BMS). Since 2019, the company operates as a subsidiary of DEUTZ AG, strengthening its position in the electrification sector. With over 70 specialized employees, Futavis combines technical expertise in hardware and software development with extensive experience in battery design and functional safety. The company serves various industries, including automotive, commercial vehicles, off-road machinery, material handling, and marine applications, delivering solutions that meet ISO 26262 safety standards.

Battery Technology

Futavis’s core technology portfolio centers on two main areas: modular battery systems and Battery Management Systems. Their modular battery systems are designed for adaptability, offering customizable solutions with different voltage levels and capacities. These systems integrate seamlessly with various applications while maintaining high safety and performance standards.

The company’s flagship product, the Futavis BMS 3.0, represents an advanced solution in battery management technology. This system is ISO 26262-certified and provides comprehensive monitoring and control functions for battery operations. It includes features such as cell voltage monitoring, temperature management, and state-of-charge calculation, ensuring optimal battery performance and longevity.

Additionally, Futavis develops specialized components like the Switch Box (S-Box) and Isolation Monitor. The S-Box enables safe battery disconnection during emergencies, while the Isolation Monitor oversees systems up to 800V DC, maintaining safety standards. These components form part of their integrated approach to battery system development, supporting reliable operation across various applications.

Recent Projects

In Winter 2023, Futavis appointed Adarsha Kanchana as Managing Director, marking a new phase in the company’s development. The company has focused on enhancing cyber security measures, implementing training programs and developing protocols aligned with ISO 21434 and UN ECE R155, R156 standards.

A significant initiative includes participation in the “SKAEN” innovation network, supporting the development of automated and electric commercial vehicle technologies. The company also leads the “PrOlonged Life Cycle for Electric Vehicles” project, aimed at extending electric vehicle lifespan and improving sustainability.

Investors

Following its acquisition in 2019, Futavis operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of DEUTZ AG, a publicly traded company listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. This integration enhances Futavis’s capabilities through access to DEUTZ’s global resources and market presence. The partnership strengthens DEUTZ’s E-DEUTZ electrification strategy while providing Futavis with increased development and production capabilities.

Prior to the DEUTZ acquisition, information about earlier investors remains undisclosed in public records. The current ownership structure places Futavis firmly within DEUTZ AG’s corporate framework, benefiting from the parent company’s established position in drive systems manufacturing.
