Battery Technology

Hitachi Energy offers battery energy storage systems (BESS) including the PQpluS modular AC-coupled system and CrystEna containerized lithium-ion solutions. It leverages HVDC and FACTS technologies for grid integration, partners with Powin Energy for power conversion, and deploys digital tools—lifecycle management, diagnostics, predictive analytics—and the e-mesh platform. It also repurposes second-life automotive batteries for stationary storage, supporting EV charging, commercial energy efficiency, and frequency regulation.

In 2023, announced a $6 billion investment plan with $250 million by 2027 to expand global transformer capacity; Beijing and Datong facilities in China certified as National Green Factories; Piteå, Sweden factory expanded workforce and machinery by 50%; rolled out EconiQ roadmap with 800 kV and upgraded 420 kV switchgear; showcasing SF₆-free switchgear, semiconductor solutions, and digital substations at PCIM Europe and ELECRAMA 2025.
