ITEN is a leading innovator in the energy storage industry, specializing in the development and manufacturing of solid-state micro-batteries. Founded with a mission to address the limitations of traditional battery technologies, ITEN has established itself as a key player in the battery market by delivering high-performance, eco-friendly energy storage solutions. The company’s focus on solid-state lithium-ion (Li-ion) technology enables it to create batteries that are safer, more efficient, and environmentally sustainable compared to conventional liquid electrolyte-based batteries.

Headquartered in Dardilly, France, ITEN operates as an Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM), overseeing the entire production process from material synthesis to final product assembly. With over 12 years of research and development, a team of more than 40 engineers and PhDs, and a portfolio of 200+ patents, ITEN is dedicated to advancing battery technology for applications ranging from IoT devices and wearables to healthcare and smart city infrastructure.

Battery Technology

ITEN’s core technology revolves around solid-state lithium-ion micro-batteries, which replace traditional liquid electrolytes with solid materials such as ceramics or polymers. This design eliminates the risks of leakage, thermal runaway, and explosion, making the batteries inherently safer. The solid-state architecture also enables higher energy density, faster charging, and longer lifespans, with ITEN’s batteries capable of enduring over 2,000 charge/discharge cycles and operating for 10 to 20 years.

The company’s batteries are compact, with sizes as small as 3.2 x 2.5 x 0.6 mm, and can be customized to fit specific application requirements. They are designed to operate across a wide temperature range, from -40°C to +85°C, making them suitable for harsh environments. ITEN’s proprietary nanomaterials and electrode architectures further enhance performance, delivering high power density and low self-discharge rates.

One of ITEN’s standout features is its commitment to sustainability. The batteries are free from heavy metals, toxic materials, and organic solvents, and they are fully recyclable. This eco-friendly approach significantly reduces the environmental impact compared to traditional coin cells, aligning with global efforts to promote greener energy solutions.

Recent Projects

In the past year, ITEN has made significant strides in scaling its production capabilities and expanding its product lineup. The company recently launched the industrial-scale production of its Powency© family of rechargeable solid-state batteries, including models with capacities of 150µAh and 250µAh. These batteries are manufactured at ITEN’s facility near Lyon, France, and are designed to meet the growing demand for compact, high-performance energy storage in IoT and wearable devices.

Additionally, ITEN has secured €80 million in funding to support its expansion plans, which include increasing production capacity, enhancing its global sales network, and developing new products with higher energy densities. The company also plans to introduce micro-batteries tailored for applications requiring more power, further solidifying its position as a leader in the solid-state battery market.

Investors

ITEN has attracted significant investment from prominent entities, reflecting confidence in its technology and growth potential. Key investors include Innovacom, a long-standing supporter since ITEN’s early stages, and Bpifrance, the French state-owned bank. Other notable investors include Groupe SEB, a leading French small appliances group, and Habert Dassault Finances. These investments have enabled ITEN to accelerate its research, expand production, and bring innovative battery solutions to market.
