Veolia’s battery technology focuses on lithium-ion battery recycling and lithium production. Through its subsidiary Veolia Water Technologies, it uses HPD® crystallization to extract and purify lithium into high-purity salts for both virgin production and recycling, including at Li-Cycle’s New York plant. Globally, it employs hydrometallurgical and mechanical separation to recover cobalt, nickel, and lithium, partnering with Groupe Renault and Solvay on closed-loop recycling systems.
Veolia Water New Jersey agreed to acquire Manalapan Township’s water system (3,500 customers, $4 million deal, $28 million in infrastructure investment, closing in 2025) and partnered with Mistral AI to integrate advanced AI language models into oversight of its water, waste, and energy facilities to improve operational efficiency and predictive maintenance.
