BYD said in its interim report released on August 28, 2026, that first-half revenue and net profit both declined year on year, even as overseas shipments rose sharply. The company reported operating revenue of about 344.815 billion yuan for the first six months of 2026, down 7.13% from a year earlier. Net profit attributable to shareholders fell 20.54% to about 12.32 billion yuan.
BYD attributed the lower profit mainly to short-term foreign exchange pressure and related losses, while saying the profitability of its core business remained stable. The company also noted that second-quarter net profit increased 30% year on year, with gross margin reaching 18.9%, its highest level in a year.
Revenue from BYD’s automotive and related products business came to about 275.34 billion yuan, down 8.98% year on year and accounting for 79.85% of total revenue. Revenue from electronics and other products rose 0.96% to about 69.405 billion yuan, representing 20.13% of the total.
For the first half of 2026, BYD’s cumulative new energy vehicle sales totaled about 1.8085 million units, a decline of 15.72% year on year. Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu linked the sales shortfall to supply chain constraints, saying the company’s second-generation Blade Battery is still in the ramp-up phase and that current sales are being affected by battery production capacity. A staff member from BYD’s flash-charging business said capacity has improved after six months of line upgrades, but supply remains tight.
At the same time, BYD’s overseas business continued to expand. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the company exported 792,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026, up 67.8% year on year. Exports accounted for nearly 44% of total sales. Wang said the company may exceed its full-year overseas sales target of 1.5 million units.
BYD’s premium brands also grew. Combined sales of Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and YangWang reached about 228,000 units, up 61% from a year earlier, and made up 12.6% of total sales.
