CATL and BYD Lead China's Power Battery Installations Surge

In June 2026, China’s domestic power battery installations reached 76.5 GWh, representing a 31.5 percent increase year-on-year and a 6.4 percent rise from May. Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries continued to dominate the market, accounting for 63.7 GWh or 83.3 percent of total installations. Ternary batteries comprised the remainder, with 12.7 GWh and a 16.5 percent share.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) retained its leading position in the overall power battery market, recording 32.59 GWh of installations and a 42.70 percent market share. Although CATL’s share declined by 3.43 percentage points from May, it remained well ahead of its competitors. BYD secured second place with 14.11 GWh of installations and an 18.49 percent share, up 1.92 percentage points month-over-month. Together, CATL and BYD controlled 61.19 percent of the market.

In third place, CALB installed 5.20 GWh, lifting its share to 6.82 percent. Gotion High-tech followed in fourth with 4.96 GWh and a 6.49 percent share, while Eve Energy rounded out the top five with 4.45 GWh and a 5.84 percent share. The top five battery makers accounted for 80.34 percent of China’s June installations.

Within the ternary battery segment, CATL led with 9.18 GWh and a 72.56 percent share, despite a 1.80 percentage-point drop from May. LG Energy Solution posted 1.46 GWh installations and an 11.53 percent share, making it the second-largest ternary supplier in China. Svolt Energy followed with 1.05 GWh (8.28 percent), while CALB and Sunwoda held fourth and fifth positions with 0.45 GWh (3.55 percent) and 0.42 GWh (3.31 percent), respectively.

In the LFP segment, CATL’s installations totaled 23.40 GWh, giving it a 36.77 percent share, down 2.89 percentage points from the previous month. BYD’s LFP output mirrored its overall figures at 14.11 GWh (22.16 percent), narrowing its gap with CATL in this segment to 14.61 percentage points. Gotion High-tech, CALB and Eve Energy occupied the next three spots with shares of 7.75 percent, 7.47 percent and 6.99 percent, respectively, all posting modest month-over-month gains.
