Global electric vehicle (EV) battery installations reached 608.5 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in the first half of 2026, marking a 20.0% increase year-on-year, according to data released by SNE Research. Leading the sector, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) recorded 242.7 GWh of battery installations, up 25.3% from the same period in 2025. CATL’s global market share rose to 39.9%, compared with 38.2% a year earlier.

Second-ranked BYD saw more modest growth, with installations of 87.7 GWh, a 1.6% rise year-on-year. Its market share declined to 14.4% from 17.0% in H1 2025. Together, CATL and BYD accounted for 54.3% of the global EV battery market.

South Korea’s LG Energy Solution ranked third with 52.6 GWh of installations, up 8.4% year-on-year, but its market share slipped to 8.6% from 9.6%. In fourth place, China’s CALB delivered 31.2 GWh, a 39.5% gain, boosting its share to 5.1%. Gotion High-tech followed in fifth with 28.0 GWh—up 43.3%—securing 4.6% of the market.

Japan’s Panasonic installed 22.7 GWh, a 10.2% increase, but its share edged down to 3.7%. Eve Energy climbed to seventh place with 20.9 GWh, a 51.7% jump, holding 3.4% of the market. South Korea’s SK On was the only top-10 supplier to see a year-on-year decline, dropping 6.7% to 19.0 GWh and slipping to a 3.1% share amid production adjustments by key customers.

Rounding out the top 10, Svolt Energy and Sunwoda posted installations of 15.7 GWh and 14.5 GWh, up 40.9% and 13.7%, respectively. Chinese firms occupied seven of the top 10 positions, collectively accounting for 72.4% of global EV battery installations.

Outside China, battery installations grew 26.3% to 269.0 GWh. CATL led this segment with 90.5 GWh (up 41.7%), followed by BYD with 28.2 GWh (up 67.9%). Gotion, Svolt, CALB, and Eve Energy all achieved double- or triple-digit growth overseas. Samsung SDI recorded the steepest decline outside China, falling 29.0% to 10.5 GWh due to weaker demand from North American and European automakers.
