Donut Lab has enlisted the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland to conduct independent measurements of its all-solid-state battery, which it introduced as the first of its kind ready for mass production (VTT customer report). VTT, a state-owned research organization recognized across Europe, has performed a series of evaluations in its laboratory to verify the battery’s performance claims. Donut Lab plans to publish the full measurement reports on its website and share a companion video series on its social media channels, beginning Monday, February 23 at 2 pm CET.

The solid-state battery first debuted at the CES trade show in January, where its potential for serial production in vehicles sparked extensive discussion within the industry. In response to both enthusiasm and skepticism, the company opted for third-party validation. “Our battery innovation has attracted significant interest and questions—people want to know how it delivers on safety and performance promises,” said Donut Lab CEO Marko Lehtimäki. “By providing detailed measurement data, we aim to demonstrate the technology’s true capabilities.”

The upcoming video series will walk viewers through each set of findings, from energy density and charge-discharge efficiency to thermal stability. Donut Lab CTO Ville Piippo noted, “Solid-state batteries have long been viewed as the next major leap in electric mobility. Our technology offers extended range, reduced weight, and new design freedom, all while eliminating flammable liquid electrolytes. These features could reshape vehicle architecture and other applications.”

Compared with conventional lithium-ion cells, solid-state designs promise enhanced safety by preventing thermal runaway and improving environmental compatibility. Donut Lab intends for the scheduled releases—both video and written reports—to support transparent discussion around its technology and to furnish engineers, OEMs, and end users with rigorous data.
