Epsilon CAM has announced a significant advance in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode technology with its Gen III LFP Cathode Material, marking one of the first non-Chinese breakthroughs in commercial high-energy-density battery chemistry. The formulation delivers a discharge capacity of at least 159 mAh/g and an electrode density of at least 2.51 g/cc, translating into higher energy per cell for electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

Developed at Epsilon’s ISO 9001-certified Cathode Technology Centre in Moosburg, Germany, the Gen III material builds on more than 145 active patents and extensive materials science research. “With our Gen III LFP Cathode Material, we’ve engineered a formulation that gives EV makers genuine performance differentiation—more energy per cell, denser electrode architecture, and the compliance pathway that matters most for the North American market: full PFE approval,” said Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Group.

Epsilon plans to scale commercial manufacturing to 30,000 tons per annum (TPA) at a new facility in India by 2030. The Gen III LFP Cathode Material meets Prohibited Foreign Entity (PFE) compliance standards, ensuring unrestricted entry into U.S. battery manufacturing and automotive supply chains. This regulatory advantage provides a competitive moat in a market driven by diversified sourcing mandates.

For battery cell manufacturers, the new material optimizes energy density and discharge capacity while delivering twice the cycle life and proven high-temperature performance. Electric vehicle OEMs can expect lower total cost of ownership, reduced warranty exposure, and battery packs suited for demanding real-world conditions.

Until now, OEMs seeking high-energy-density LFP at scale had few non-Chinese supply options, creating concentration risk and geopolitical exposure. Epsilon’s Gen III offering achieves performance parity with Chinese alternatives while diversifying the supply chain and ensuring North American regulatory compliance.

Founded in 2023, Epsilon Cathode Active Materials specializes in the development and commercial production of LFP cathode materials. Its Moosburg facility features a 250-ton demonstration plant and advanced cell testing capabilities, positioning the company as a leading non-Chinese R&D hub. The planned 30,000 TPA facility in India reflects Epsilon’s commitment to a resilient, geographically diversified, and sustainable battery materials ecosystem for global EV and energy storage markets.
