MG Motor has opened a new European Engineering Centre in Frankfurt, Germany, as part of its “in Europe, for Europe” strategy. The facility will develop vehicles tailored to European climates, road conditions, and driving habits, working alongside engineering teams in the UK and the MG Design Hub in London. This expansion supports MG’s growth across 34 European countries, where cumulative sales have surpassed one million vehicles.
At the opening, MG introduced its SolidCore Battery, the world’s first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery. The semi-solid electrolyte in each cell creates a protective barrier that enhances safety, extends battery life, and meets evolving regulatory requirements. MG says the SolidCore Battery delivers longer driving range, faster charging, improved low-temperature performance—allowing immediate start-up without preheating—and refined power delivery. The company plans to introduce SolidCore Battery technology in its European electric vehicle lineup by the end of 2026.
MG also unveiled Hybrid+ technology for its hybrid models. This system combines advanced software and hardware to optimize fuel consumption and accelerate power delivery, while a larger 1.83 kWh core battery increases electric-only range. A newly developed three-speed hybrid transmission enhances instant “electric-first” torque, and an eight-mode logic engine automatically adjusts propulsion strategy based on real-time driving conditions, including slopes and terrain. According to MG, Hybrid+ also improves cabin refinement through superior noise and vibration suppression, and it features a high-efficiency engine and fully integrated Hybrid Control Unit for smooth, responsive performance.
An MG Europe executive noted that these advancements underscore the brand’s commitment to making cutting-edge electric and hybrid technology more intuitive, accessible, and widely available. By focusing on regional requirements and investing in local engineering resources, MG aims to strengthen its position in the European market, delivering vehicles that combine quality, technology, and value.
