SAIC’s MG brand has commenced deliveries of the MG4 Anxin Edition hatchback in China, marking the launch of what is billed as the world’s first mass-produced passenger vehicle equipped with a liquid-solid state battery. The MG4 Anxin Edition joins four other MG4 trims and sits at the top of the lineup, priced at 102,800 yuan (approximately $14,600). Other MG4 versions range from 68,800 yuan (about $9,800) upward.
The MG4 Anxin Edition is powered by a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering up to 120 kW (161 hp) and 250 Nm of torque. Energy storage comes from a 53.95 kWh manganese-based lithium-ion liquid-solid state battery, which reduces liquid electrolyte content by around 5% compared to conventional lithium-ion packs. Under China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) conditions, the vehicle achieves a range of 530 km on a single charge and consumes 11.9 kWh per 100 km. The battery supports 2C fast charging, replenishing from 30% to 80% in about 21 minutes.
Performance highlights include a top speed of 160 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 50 km/h in 3.0 seconds. The hatchback measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. Its curb weight of 1,500 kg reflects the additional battery technology, compared with 1,415–1,485 kg for MG4 variants fitted with conventional lithium iron phosphate packs. Structural rigidity is rated at 31,000 Nm/deg.
Visually, buyers can choose from six exterior paint options. Inside, the cockpit features a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, an LCD instrument panel, a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, and a dual-layer center console. The trunk offers 471 liters of space, expandable to 1,362 liters with the rear seats folded.
Advanced driver assistance is supported by five cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, all processed by a Horizon Robotics Journey J6e chip delivering 80 TOPS of compute power. This setup enables highway navigation on autopilot (NOA) and automated parking assistance.
