Nano One Advances Global LFP Cathode Materials Strategy

Nano One is pushing its One-Pot LFP process into regional markets through DevCos as demand rises in storage, EVs, and defense. The company also sees room in emerging chemistries like sodium-ion and is progressing its Candiac expansion.

Nano One Materials Corp. said it is advancing its global strategy for lithium iron phosphate cathode active materials as demand increases across energy storage, electric vehicle, and defense applications. The Vancouver-based company said it plans to license its One-Pot process technology into regional markets through localized development companies, or DevCos, with the goal of building partnerships and supporting industrial-scale production in a capital-light structure. The company also said it is monitoring emerging battery chemistries, including sodium-ion, and may apply its experience in feedstock qualification and recycling to those markets.

Nano One said demand for LFP is rising outside China, supported by policy shifts in Canada, the United States, and Europe that favor regional battery supply chains. The company cited market growth in stationary storage, where LFP dominates installations, as well as increasing use in battery electric vehicles. It estimated that the addressable LFP market outside China was worth about $8 billion to $10 billion annually in 2026 and could grow to about $40 billion by 2035.

According to the company, its One-Pot process is intended to support localized production by making cathode materials directly from non-sulfate metals or oxides feedstock. Nano One said this approach reduces reliance on precursor supply chains that are concentrated in China and may also simplify permitting by reducing certain waste-stream management requirements. The company said its DevCo model would combine its technology with regional partners, customers, and project financing to advance individual plants on their own merits.

Nano One said its Candiac capacity expansion remains on track, with detailed engineering reported to be 85% complete as of July 23, 2026. The company is targeting commissioning of the expanded production line in the first half of 2027. Its existing pilot line is already being used for customer sampling and product qualification, and it said small-volume commercial supply discussions are continuing with defense and energy storage customers, with initial agreements targeted for the end of 2026.
