Pure Lithium Corp. has opened its new headquarters and pilot production facility in Chicago’s Fulton Market district, signaling its transition from research to commercial-scale battery manufacturing. The 21,000-square-foot site at 400 N. Aberdeen St. will host a pilot production line for the company’s vertically integrated Brine to Battery™ technology, which combines lithium extraction and anode production.

Emilie Bodoin, founder, chairman and CEO of Pure Lithium, noted that after more than four years of development and a portfolio of over 128 patents, the company is now “focused on rapidly growing the business and moving from lab to market in the fastest, most capital-efficient manner.” In July, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity awarded Pure Lithium an $8.5 million incentive package, including $4.4 million through the Reimagining Electric Vehicles program, to support its expansion in the state.

Representatives from Pure Lithium’s leadership team, investors, business partners, and local and state officials attended the ribbon cutting. U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth emphasized the benefits of domestic renewable manufacturing for job creation, national security and sustainability, and welcomed the state’s first commercially viable lithium metal battery producer. Illinois State Senator Lakesia Collins and Lisa Clemmons-Stott of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity praised the company’s relocation from Boston, the creation of 50 new jobs, and Illinois’s favorable infrastructure and talent pool.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson highlighted the city’s world-class workforce, leading universities and proximity to national laboratories as key strengths that will support Pure Lithium’s growth and help it reach global markets. Pure Lithium plans to target applications in drones, defense, grid-scale energy storage, consumer electronics and electric vehicles. Its Brine to Battery technology promises to double energy density compared to conventional lithium-ion cells while eliminating graphite, cobalt, nickel and manganese, offering improvements in performance, cost and safety.
