Schaeffler and CATL have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop Battery Management Systems and “X-in-1” Integrated PowerBox solutions for e-mobility applications. The agreement builds on an already secured customer project and is intended to support growing demand for electrification solutions in Europe. Both companies said they plan to expand their strategic partnership and strengthen their competitiveness in the European market while also exploring additional international opportunities.
The collaboration focuses on two technology areas. First, the companies will work together on Battery Management Systems designed to meet the requirements of European automakers. Second, they will develop integrated PowerBox solutions that combine high-voltage electronics and electromechanical systems in a more compact architecture. According to the companies, the goal is to create highly integrated electrification solutions that deliver strong performance, safety, and efficiency.
Schaeffler brings experience across the BMS value chain, including hardware and software development, system integration, functional safety, testing and validation, and localized series production in Europe. CATL contributes expertise in cell production technology, battery system development, and high-volume industrialization. The companies said these capabilities complement each other and provide a foundation for a long-term partnership in the battery electrification market.
Schaeffler said its established footprint in Europe supports local research and development, manufacturing, market entry, and regulatory compliance. CATL said the cooperation reflects a shared strategic direction and common view of industry development. The company also said the partners will further explore the use of cloud computing and artificial intelligence in battery management applications. Both companies stated that the partnership is aimed at supporting the development of competitive products for the European market and beyond.
