On October 27, SK Enmove entered into a memorandum of understanding with LG Electronics and U.S.-based Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) to jointly develop immersion cooling solutions tailored for hyperscale AI data centers worldwide. The agreement was signed at LG Electronics’ chiller manufacturing facility in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, with senior representatives from each company in attendance.

Under the partnership, SK Enmove will supply its proprietary cooling fluids, LG Electronics will contribute advanced chiller and cooling system technology, and GRC will provide immersion tanks designed for direct-to-chip liquid immersion cooling. The three parties intend to integrate these components into a comprehensive “total package” solution. Initial performance validation is planned at LG Electronics’ dedicated AI data center testbed, where real-world workloads will be used to assess energy efficiency and thermal performance.

Immersion cooling involves submerging server components in a non-conductive fluid with high thermal conductivity, enabling rapid heat transfer and significantly lowering a data center’s power usage effectiveness (PUE) compared to conventional air- or water-based cooling. This approach can yield substantial energy savings and support sustainability goals as the computing demands of AI workloads continue to surge.

SK Enmove brings to the table more than a decade of experience in formulating high-performance cooling fluids and base oils. The company became an early investor in GRC in 2022 and has since launched immersion fluids for data centers, including a commercial deployment at SK Telecom’s facilities in 2023. Over the past year, SK Enmove has also expanded its offerings to energy storage systems and electric vehicle battery thermal management in collaboration with partners such as Hanwha Aerospace, INCELL, and SK On.

LG Electronics, a leader in heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions, supplies a broad range of chillers and commercial air conditioners and is actively advancing into emerging markets like AI data center cooling, nuclear facilities, and large-scale manufacturing plants. GRC, which pioneered commercial immersion cooling in 2009, has established partnerships with major global IT companies and continues to lead the market in fluid-based data center cooling.

Beyond joint development and testing, the companies plan to leverage their global networks to identify further opportunities and accelerate adoption of immersion cooling technologies in AI data centers worldwide.
