On August 19, 2025, Tata Technologies introduced WATTSync, a digital battery passport platform aimed at strengthening traceability, compliance, and sustainability across the entire battery lifecycle—from raw-material sourcing and cell manufacturing through vehicle operation to end-of-life recycling. The solution delivers a unified, real-time view of critical battery data, including material composition, performance metrics, carbon footprint figures, and recovery status, while automating compliance reporting in line with evolving regional regulations.

WATTSync establishes secure, role-based access for component suppliers, certification bodies, and regulatory authorities, ensuring what the company describes as a “single digital truth” for each battery. The system integrates key enterprise applications—product lifecycle management, manufacturing execution, and enterprise resource planning—with cloud data lakes, creating a continuous digital thread for every cell and pack produced.

Artificial intelligence capabilities monitor battery health, detect anomalies, and support audit processes by generating actionable insights. Blockchain technology underpins the platform’s data integrity framework, guarding against tampering and providing an immutable record of transactions and updates.

The launch of WATTSync anticipates forthcoming requirements in major markets: beginning in February 2027, all electric-vehicle and industrial batteries sold in the European Union must carry a digital battery passport. India has also signaled plans to adopt a similar regulatory framework, making early deployment of compliance solutions crucial for global original equipment manufacturers and cell producers.

By enabling transparent sourcing verification, faster audit readiness, and data-driven design improvements through AI-led feedback loops, WATTSync is positioned to facilitate more efficient recycling streams and support circular-economy objectives. The cloud-agnostic architecture allows for rapid, scalable roll-out across multiple geographies and IT environments.

Tata Technologies believes the new platform will help industry stakeholders meet stricter environmental mandates, optimize supply-chain operations, and drive sustainable innovation in e-mobility and energy storage markets.
