Verkor was founded in 2020 with the goal of producing low-carbon batteries in Europe while supporting a sustainable and sovereign industry. This mission complements the broader European energy transition by addressing both industrial autonomy and decarbonization objectives. The company’s efforts are now focused on its Gigafactory in Dunkerque, which represents a significant step toward large-scale industrial production.

To accelerate the ramp-up of battery output, Verkor has adopted a “digital by design” approach that incorporates digital technologies from the earliest stages of facility development. Key elements of this model include the integration of industrial control and information systems, the use of artificial intelligence for performance optimization, extensive process automation, and real-time, contextualized data analysis. By leveraging these capabilities, Verkor aims to enhance decision-making, maintain continuous performance monitoring, and boost overall operational efficiency.

In support of this strategy, Verkor has entered into a partnership with Capgemini. The collaboration covers the design of a digital backbone that aligns with the manufacturing processes at Verkor’s Innovation Centre in Grenoble, as well as the deployment of digital solutions at the Dunkerque Gigafactory. The primary objectives of the partnership are to accelerate industrial performance, mitigate risks associated with production ramp-up, and achieve tighter control over quality, costs, and efficiency.

By harnessing data analytics and artificial intelligence, Verkor and Capgemini intend to streamline the factory’s operations and ensure a more agile response to production challenges. A demonstration of this cooperation is available in a published video, which showcases concrete applications of the digital solutions in action.

As European demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage grows, Verkor’s Gigafactory and its digital integration model are poised to play a key role in bolstering regional battery manufacturing capabilities while supporting climate-related goals.
