CellCube Energy Storage GmbH, operating under Enerox GmbH, specializes in Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) technology. With over 14 years of proven performance and more than 130 installations worldwide, the company develops and manufactures advanced energy storage solutions. These systems are designed for long-duration storage applications, supporting renewable energy integration, grid stability, and off-grid power supply.

Battery Technology

CellCube’s VRFB technology represents a significant advancement in sustainable energy storage. These batteries store energy in liquid electrolytes contained in external tanks, enabling independent scaling of power and energy capacity. The system offers a minimum of 20,000 cycles over a 30-year service life without capacity loss or electrolyte degradation.

  • Non-toxic, widely available vanadium electrolyte
  • Reusable and reclaimable materials
  • Extended storage capacity (4-24+ hours)
  • Double-walled tanks for enhanced safety
  • Automatic fault detection systems
  • Modular design for customization
  • Minimal maintenance requirements

The batteries maintain consistent performance throughout their lifespan, making them particularly effective for renewable energy storage, grid stabilization, and long-duration applications requiring reliable power supply.

Recent Projects

In October 2024, CellCube secured approximately $19 million in combined funding from the U.S. Department of Defense Innovation Unit and the Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations. This funding supports the deployment of a megawatt-scale vanadium flow battery system for the Extended Duration Storage for Installations initiative at United States Marine Corps facilities.

The project involves collaboration with Potelco Inc., Leidos, and the Electric Power Research Institute, demonstrating CellCube’s capability to provide sustainable energy solutions for critical infrastructure.

Investors

Mustang Energy PLC maintains a significant ownership position in CellCube through VRFB Holdings Limited. Previously, Bushveld Minerals held a 27.6% stake before selling its 50.5% interest in VRFB Holdings Limited to Mustang Energy. In April 2021, a consortium provided $30 million in investment to scale up VRFB production capabilities.
