Company Overview

Aepnus Technology Inc. is transforming industrial chemical production through advanced electrolysis technologies. Founded by Dr. Lukas Hackl (CEO) and Dr. Bilen Akuzum (CTO), the company specializes in developing efficient electrolyzers that convert renewable electricity into essential commodity chemicals. Their primary focus lies in producing Hydrochloric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, and Caustic Soda while significantly reducing environmental impact and production costs. With operations spanning North America and Europe, Aepnus Technology contributes to strengthening domestic production of critical minerals in the United States, supporting transportation, utility, and aviation sectors through sustainable supply chains.

Battery Technology

Aepnus Technology’s innovative electrolysis platform addresses significant challenges in battery manufacturing and recycling. Their technology converts sodium sulfate waste from battery cathode production into valuable chemicals such as sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide through an energy-efficient process. This process achieves 50% higher energy efficiency compared to traditional electrolysis methods and eliminates the need for expensive rare earth elements like Iridium. Powered by renewable energy, it enables on-site chemical production, reducing transportation costs and creating closed-loop chemical supply systems. Additionally, Aepnus develops processes for domestic lithium extraction and refinement, and wastewater recycling solutions for battery manufacturers.

Products

The company develops efficient electrolyzers for producing Hydrochloric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, and Caustic Soda. Their flagship product includes a two-ton-per-year pilot electrolyzer system capable of converting sodium sulfate waste into useful chemicals, with plans for commercial scale-up in the near future.

Recent Projects

Aepnus Technology is deploying a two-ton-per-year pilot electrolyzer system in Canada with plans to scale up tenfold within four years aiming for commercial operations. They collaborate with over 15 clients on feasibility studies and pilot-scale testing. Their technology targets a reduction of 3 gigatons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through efficient chemical production.

Investors

Aepnus Technology secured $8M in seed funding led by Clean Energy Ventures with participation from Voyager Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital, Impact Science Ventures, Muus Climate Partners, and Gravity Climate Fund. Mallika Gummalla from Clean Energy Ventures joined their Board of Directors to support advancement and pilot program expansion.
