The fund secured roughly €860 million in its initial close, surpassing its target, and supports growth-stage enterprises positioned to scale impact worldwide.
Investments focus on environmental technology sectors such as energy transition, industrial decarbonization, sustainable agriculture and low-emission transportation. The fund typically deploys between €10 million and €40 million per company, guided by rigorous ESG standards and objectives mapped to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Lightrock’s impact team applies a structured theory of change to drive proactive sourcing and monitor outcomes. Investors include pension funds, asset managers, endowments, family offices and sovereign institutions.
Clean technology forms a central pillar of the fund’s strategy, with a strong emphasis on battery materials and storage systems. Portfolio examples include Group14 Technologies, which manufactures silicon-carbon materials for lithium-silicon batteries, and Mainspring Energy, developer of linear generators for distributed clean power. Other support has gone to Octopus Energy’s renewable power and grid management solutions, AiDASH’s remote monitoring platforms for utilities and Aerones’ robotic services for wind turbine maintenance. These investments illustrate the fund’s role in advancing energy storage, grid stability and emission reductions in the push toward net-zero by 2050.
